Good to know
The weekend
What's happening over the weekend?
We're making a long weekend of it:
- Saturday, July 3 — welcome day, afternoon and evening: pond time, runs, hikes, pickleball and a relaxed get-together
- Sunday, July 4 — our ceremony and reception
- Monday, July 5 — a send-off brunch before everyone heads home
Exact times will come with the formal invitation, and your personal weekend page will show everything you're invited to.
When should I plan to arrive and leave?
If you can, arrive by Saturday afternoon and head home after brunch on Monday — that way you won't miss a thing. You're very welcome to come up Friday and make a longer trip of it.
If you can only make part of it, Sunday is the one day not to miss. Let us know which days you're planning on in the save-the-date form.
What should I wear?
Sunday’s ceremony and reception: cocktail or garden party attire.
The ceremony and cocktail hour are outside on the grass, so choose shoes that will be comfortable there.
For everything else: wear whatever makes you feel good and comfortable!
What's the weather like in July?
Early July in southern Vermont is usually warm and pleasant — highs in the high 70s or low 80s°F — but it cools off fast once the sun goes down, often into the 50s.
Pack a warm layer for the evenings, a rain jacket for the odd afternoon thunderstorm, and bug spray for anything near the ponds.
What if it rains?
The celebration goes ahead rain or shine — Farm Road Estate has covered space for everything, so the worst a storm can do is move us indoors.
Is the ceremony accessible?
The ceremony is on a lawn with some gravel and forest paths nearby. Let us know if you need accommodations and we'll make sure there's a smooth path and seating close by.
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We're keeping the ceremony unplugged (no phones or cameras) so everyone is present, but feel free to take as many photos (and videos) as you'd like at the reception. We'll be collecting photos / videos after the event to be compiled into a wedding video.
Getting there
What airport should I fly into?
Farm Road Estate is in West Dover, Vermont. The closest airports, by drive time:
- Albany, NY (ALB) — about 1½ hours · airport · directions
- Hartford, CT (Bradley, BDL) — about 1¾ hours · airport · directions
- Manchester, NH (MHT) — about 2¼ hours · airport · directions
- Boston, MA (Logan, BOS) — about 2½ hours · airport · directions
- Burlington, VT (BTV) — about 2¾ hours · airport · directions
Albany is the closest; Boston tends to have the most flights. New York airports are 3½–4 hours away. Wherever you land, you'll want a car from there — see Travel.
Do I need a car?
Yes, we'd recommend it. Uber and Lyft don't really operate out here, and there's no public transport worth relying on.
If you'd rather not drive, there are local taxis — book them ahead, especially for late at night:
- Mount Snow Taxi — (802) 236-7667
- Valley Cab & Car Services — (802) 348-7827
Or share a ride with other guests on our carpool board.
Any tips for the drive?
Use Google Maps or Apple Maps rather than Waze — Waze has a habit of sending people down rough back roads around here.
Cell service gets patchy in the mountains, so start your directions before you lose signal (they'll keep working) or download an offline map.
Watch for deer on the roads around dusk.
Where do I park?
There's free parking on site at Farm Road Estate.
Staying over
Where should I stay?
We'd love to have as many of you as possible staying with us at Farm Road Estate and its sister inn, Farm Road Riverside, just down Route 100. Space on site is limited, so we can't guarantee everyone a room there — but we'll do our best to fit in as many people as we can. Tick "stay on site" on the save-the-date form and we'll be in touch. On-site rooms have a two-night minimum.
There are also small inns within walking distance, a hotel at Mount Snow, and plenty of rentals nearby — they're all on the Accommodations page. It's a holiday weekend, so book early.
Will there be a hotel room block?
We're evaluating hotel room blocks nearby right now. As soon as one is confirmed, we'll post the details — and any booking code — on the Accommodations page and let you know.
If you'd rather lock something in now, go for it: the small inns across Route 100 fill up fast on a holiday weekend.
RSVPs & guests
Is the save-the-date my RSVP?
Not quite — it's our way of getting a rough headcount and your email so we can keep you posted. The formal invitation, with the real RSVP and a reply-by date, will follow.
Can I bring a plus-one?
If your invitation includes a plus-one, you'll see a place to add their name when you RSVP.
Can you accommodate dietary needs?
Yes — there's a spot on the RSVP form for allergies and dietary needs for every meal we're serving.
